Dear friends and relations,

This is our new point of contact for all the former students who still remember and want to have anything to do with their alma mater.

Please spread the word and get in touch if you want to contribute to the blog itself. Our intention is to rekindle old friendships as well as to establish some new ones.

Hopefully this will become a portal for contacts, answers to queries and much more between students past and present.

Over to you now, feel free to comment below

Natasha what an excellent idea. Thanks for setting this up.
Greetings from SOAS.

Thats a nice idea - a way to demonstrate to all that the Russian department was (and possibly is still) the best department at Leeds Uni and also a good forum for sharing random stories about Mother Russia. Spacibo.

Coffee in 'the Department'. The instrumental case ('she cleaned the floor mopwise'). Poetry with Colin. Topical discussion with Natasha. Grammar with Professor Holman. Первый Учитель with Gordon. Some of my many fond memories of Leeds Russian department.

I wonder if that scary man with the moustache and the leather trench coat still teaches at kiev university...

Not really familiar with this blog thing but sure I'll get the hang of it! Good idea anyway. Me and Ol have many happy memories of Leeds too (1990-1994). Now both settled in Stockholm with daughters Anna and Emily and working as translators, mostly Swedish but the odd bit of Russian comes our way (it's very rusty tho - sorry Natasha!) Lou & Ol

This is a great idea! I love to hear what former Russian students are up to nowadays. We need to set up some general themes - trouble is, I don't know where to start as I had so many fun and funny experiences during my time as a Russian student - especially at TsMO! Does anyone know if Ailita is still regularly being shown around Moscow by a group of petrified Leeds students?

Here's what Hannah-Louise says

We'd like to invite you to a Love's Bridge evening at Pushkin House (5a Bloomsbury Square), London on Tuesday 2nd December at 7.30pm.

Pushkin House is a place for Russian cultural gatherings, discussions, events and is generally for supporting all things Russian. They have very kindly donated us the space to show a short film and preview to a possible future documentary about our project. We will also have the chance to tell people about the problems we are dealing with with the kids of Perm and how we are going about it. It will be very informal and informative, very free-of-charge and a chance to find out more about social issues in Russia. If you know anyone that might be interested in this, please feel free to invite, and we'd be particularly happy to see Russians based in London...

So please spread the word, and if you are free on Tuesday then please come along - your presence and support will be much appreciated!

Here is the link to the event if you would like to read more:

Thanks very much, Natasha, for setting up the blog. I'm also new to the idea, so I'll be brief with my comment. It's interesting to see that there is someone else here from SOAS, as that's where I'm currently studying for a PhD. Best wishes to all.
